About

LooseLeaf Learning came about to resolve a key predicament of our time: a widespread human disconnect from nature. This is evidenced in the daily lives of children and adults who spend the majority of their time inside – those who do not realize the benefits of nature to their mental and physical health nor to the important ways humans are needed as stewards of the environment. Through observing the joy and creativity of those who participate in our farm and nature programs, we have come to understand that a life filled with natural connections is not a luxury – it is a necessity. So, we have taken on the task of providing opportunities designed to educate, inspire, and renew that relationship to nature.

Our foray into this work began at Hideaway Farm in Williamsburg Virginia, where the Williamsburg Farm Camps and Farm Friday events have continuously served young people of all backgrounds and experiences in nature since 2016. Our nature-based programs have expanded on and off the farm to include school initiatives, professional development for teachers and health professionals, as well as immersions for those with learning and neurodiversities. Our work continues through The Nature Hour program, dedicated to integrating nature into fields of academics and wellness education, both on-site at schools and in local nature places.

As a nonprofit organization, LooseLeaf Learning is structured around three pillars: Work of the Hand, Nature Literacy, Stewardship. Our work continues to grow in scope and reach, with the intent of bringing these pillars to a more prominent place in education and narrowing the gap in nature equity.

Our programs:

·   provide targeted learning experiences and nature connections that enhance sustainable lifestyles and leadership practices

·   feature ecotherapy activities and resources for therapists and other specialists

·   increase knowledge of the environment that includes regional agriculture

·   foster creativity and innovation skills that include nature-based handcrafting

·   provide opportunities to develop nature literacy, land-water connections, soil and seed conservation.

We feel honored to partner with local organizations whose missions align with ours and who provide outlets for our work.
